Hi Sooty fans,

As a child I watched a Sooty video (over and over) and wanted to track it down.

It included Sweep growing a sausage plant and watering it with a water pistol "You shout out to me, i'll nod my head and you squirt it". And children singing a song about career paths 'Baking a cake, baking a cake, into the over and out again'.

Would anyone know which VHS this was on? I recall it being in a studio setting with Matthew.

Thank you for any help in advance Smiley
I'll see if I have It!

I'd forgotten how much fun the Sooty show is.  My daughter is now 4, so I picked up a couple of Sooty DVDs to see if she might like them.  She loves them, but I think I probably love them more than she does  Grin  Needless to say I've now hoovered up all the official DVD releases I can find (still looking for the Times promo).  Even as I write this, my daughter is a different room playing with some toys while I'm sitting here cracking up at Sweep trying to put a cover on his book  Cheesy Cheesy

I was born in 1976, so I grew up during the Matthew Corbett era.  Towards the end of the 80s I probably thought I was way to grown-up/cool (but in reality was a teenager, so was probably way too moody/angry) to still be watching Sooty - so as a result I don't remember cousin Scampi (although he's popped up a couple of times on the DVD releases we've now got).

I found this site when trying to find out what DVD releases were out there, and am now quite seriously considering spending a few quid on a decent so I can record from video (and then starting on a mission to get as many video releases as I can find)  Cool  This site looks like a great resource and has already been very useful (thank you to site admins!)  I'll be using the episode guide to work out which videos to get, and will start building my own archive (not for me obviously; for my daughter, you understand).

I hate to see this area empty so just want to say how much fun I thought the 'Sooty's Baby' episode was set at the hotel. It must be a labour of love for a grown man to put on a nappy for a laugh! Butch was in particularly fine form throughout!

I love many old kiddie's tv shows, even ones I never saw when I was little, like Sooty! I am amazed at the humour and artistry of the original Harry Corbett. I like Matthew and Richard's version too but it's Harry I'm most wild about. I've even managed to pick up some of the old books which have some nice illustrations, annuals and some others. There is something about the daft look of the old skinnier Sooty (did they still have rationing when he started?), and the silliness of the hammer and sudden showers, and how he plays his theme on that toy xylophone! I am thinking Harry was a decent magician as his hand movements are so good, plus there was all this 'Sooty's magic circle' business at one time. Is there a biography of him that I might be able to find?

I think probably the first punk rockers had him on the telly and got ideas! The new wavers were kept busy with Space Patrol and Doctor Who. Well, it's nice to know all kinds of people still love Sooty!

I bought the two volumes and really enjoyed seeing the four filmed episodes and extra framing stuff by Richard & co. It's nice to have around to show people what a genius Harry Corbett was (I love the scene where Sooty is typing then takes his specs off to answer the telephone, puts that down to take a message and then hangs up, puts the specs on again and resumes typing). Since then I've seen there are three volumes with different covers but volume 1 & 2 seem to have the same contents, and 3 has Butch and Sooty in a boxing arena which I saw on YouTube.

I am an actor and was fortunate enough to play a rather put upon hotel guest with my wife.As far as I'm aware the episode was called Chemistry. I've never seen it and would love a copy. Any Ideas?

Hi. Even though this board is fairly quiet, I might as well still say hello. Only just discovered this board a few days ago while I was sprawling through looking for episodes of Sooty to watch online with BFF's youngest.

I've loved Sooty ever since I was about 3 so that would've been very late 80s. Still got the very first VHS tape I ever wanted... which turns out to have been Sooty's Home Video Show. Surprisingly the tape still works and is still as funny as ever... especially the xylophone part near the end.  Grin Since then, the cheeky yellow bear with black ears has always been a major influence in my life both as a teen and now as an adult. I'm loving watching the old episodes on YT both with Harry Corbett as well as Matthew Corbett. It means that for a few hours, I can re-live the bygone days of being carefree without a single worry in the world. Cool

Welcome to the forum Smiley Yes it's a bit quiet (I think a lot of folks use facebook these days rather than message boards Undecided) Yes I love watching episodes as it brings back happy memories of those carefree days Smiley I just wish some more Australian fans would show up who recorded the episodes from TV as that's probably our best chance of finding some more mid 1980's eps, since they aired a bit later over in Australia (so more chance someone recorded them!)
